We are currently testing the Theory simulations application on our consolidated LHC@home project. It would be great if some of you please could test that the chain of communication with the VM etc works fine for you. In order to get Theory tasks, you will need to explicitly enable Theory simulations in your project preferences on LHC@home. (The default preference is Sixtrack only as many volunteers have not setup their BOINC clients for virtualisation.) There will be a few tasks only for test purposes until the setup has been validated. Many thanks for your help and contributions to LHC@home! |

Thanks, the last URL is the correct one. The first bunch of tasks were gone when you tried. We generated more, but they may be gone when you see this. We need to check the max number of tasks pr. day pr. client and make sure this does not conflict with the Sixtrack use case where there are many short tasks pr. day. |

Meanwhile fished 1 job with settings max # of jobs 1 and max # of CPUs also 1. Running OK. Thereafter I fished another one with settings max # of jobs 2 and max # of CPUs also 2. I got a second job, that started OK, but not as a dual core (mt-task), but as single core. Now testing (with lucky fishing) # of jobs = No limit and with # of CPUs 1. |

Now testing (with lucky fishing) # of jobs = No limit and with # of CPUs 1. The "No limit" setting seems to be really unlimited (depending on desired cache size) and no longer limited to 6 like in project vLHCathome. I also tested with an app_config.xml the possibility of running 2 jobs in one VM. That's working too. Used app_config.xml for project LHC@Home: <app_config> <project_max_concurrent>2</project_max_concurrent> <app> <name>Theory</name> <max_concurrent>2</max_concurrent> <fraction_done_exact/> </app> <app_version> <app_name>Theory</app_name> <plan_class>vbox64</plan_class> <avg_ncpus>2.000000</avg_ncpus> <cmdline>--nthreads 2.000000</cmdline> <cmdline>--memory_size_mb 1024</cmdline> </app_version> </app_config> |

Is this the Theory 262.50 task?? With the 254.72MB .vdi ? Btw they need to at least change the message board rule there so a person with over 1 million credits can post regardless if they have any RAC this month. I have been there since October 2004 Mad Scientist For Life |

Yes and Yes. A pair started a couple of hours ago and the other 2 machines have collected a pair each when I manually suspended some other work. 4 day estimate but I expect that to sort itself as usual as Boinc learns about the new app's behaviour. |

Thanks Ray I got 8 tasks on my 8-core so I have 7 suspended and started one running to see how it goes. (I also have 4 vLHC and one vLHC-dev running on this same host) Mad Scientist For Life |

currently the naming of the plan_class seems to be vbox64_mt_mcore as compared to vbox_64_mt_mcore with an additional underscore in the spelling |

Thanks for pointing this out. I've dug into the Sixtrack DB and removed the RAC requirement on LHC@home/Number crunching, so you should be able to post there now. (You need a tiny bit of total credit to post, so it should work for you.) The Theory task is the same as on vLHCathome. Thanks for all your contributions to LHC@home and keep on crunching! :-) |

Thanks Nils, much appreciated. I am still running some here and lots of them at vLHC and now on my 3rd new VB task is running over at the LHC SixTrack and the first two ran with no problems. .....back to work -Samson Mad Scientist For Life |
