I just hope they fix the actual problems there so the LHCb and CMS work again and the Theory tasks don't have so many "no jobs" like they have been.

But I still have plenty of work to do and I just got to watch the New York Yankees win the Wild Card game vs the Oakland A's

At least you're connected. My broadband modem died in last Saturday's flood, so no news, no BBC iPlayer, no crossword, limited Android games. That's why I'm in my office before 7am. I also had to cancel a 2-day CMS-UK meeting in Oxfordshire while I try to work out a way out of the mess.

I saw you mentioned your house problem the other day.

Is this an older house you wanted to restore or just live in?

When I was a youngster I always thought I would get an old Victorian around here and restore it where it needed it (plumbing and electrical and the rest) BUT I am glad I never did that because a new house is plenty of work when you are over 60/

I built my own back in 2002 and moved in January 2003 and did the finish work myself.........and 16 years later it is still not finished.
I even had to fix electrical mistakes made by the company that did the job and they actually passed inspection which I think they actually didn't do.

As you know there is nothing worse with a house than losing the electricity since you just end up sitting there staring at the walls

And since I have a well for water it takes power to get it to the house (I do have the creek for emergency)

I can't even imagine having to get up and go to work to be able to get online but with Boinc just sitting here doing almost nothing it does give me plenty of computers to check the sports scores and emails
My 2am to 8am bonus high-speed will last a couple days longer if I'm not running these CMS here or the Theory over at LHC and I won't have to get on all the pc's after 2am either.

Good luck with your house projects Ivan and hope your ISP gives you a new modem without making you pay too.
(you must have a cell phone to be online....I never have owned one but it seems like everyone else in the world does)

Thanks. It's what they call a "semi-detached" built by the Council in 1967. I should have had it renovated when I moved in 15 years ago, but as you say, over 60 you start losing enthusiasm for hard work (it's not the bending down that's the problem, it's the straightening back up that hurts). I've never owned a cell/mobile/handy either. I leave the ringer on the landline switched off to avoid chimney-sweeps touting for business...

You sound just like me when it comes to using the phone.
Friends know they have to email me to make any contact and our landline is only answered by the wife and she makes any calls for me.
I think the only way I could live in a semi-detached is if I owned both sides of that wall between the two..........so it would be a BIG house for me to collect more stuff.

We have a friend over here that owns one in London but she rents it and hasn't been there in decades.

2;30am here so as usual I had to take a look and see if CMS server came back to life and I just started one and will wait 45mins before I try starting any more tonight and I see you had the same problem with these still not starting in the last 30mins

But maybe by 3am my time these will start running and I will got start 14 more CMS tasks.

Another problem being over the hill (besides having to stand back up) is actually getting anything done around here........here on 5 acres no matter what project I start I end up running out of gas just going all over the property looking for tools and then back to the job to find I need another tool (today was one of those days)

Ok lets see if we can get these CMS tasks up and running again.....have a fine day Ivan.
