Shall we make a logo to sit up there in the top left-hand corner?
Here's my suggestion:

Well, I was waiting on a response to an e-mail about the project...

We've already got the badges, look on the statistics pages. There has been talk of rewards once we really get off the ground, perhaps as far as a guided tour of CERN and CMS. For the moment, though, that's as close as SETI@Home's mythical toaster.

Either you are a quick artist or you had a really long wait !
Care to explain your design and the creative thoughts that went into the non-rainbow rainbow, wiggly lines and house structure ?

I know you have the standard Boinc RAC badges, I was thinking of the more permanent badges for passing credit milestones (10k, 50k, 100k, 500k, 1m, 5m, etc), like the Atlas badges but without the squares boxes around them !

Will this tour be morning or afternoon because I would prefer afternoon if possible please ?

Well, the central bit is the standard CMS logo so it was just a matter of lifting it from elsewhere. It represents a quadrant of the CMS detector with the various colours showing the successive rings of subdetectors etc, (pixels, strips, HCAL, ECAL, magnet...) and the red lines being the paths of particles of different momenta, curving one way inside the magnet and the other outside where the magnetic field changes direction. Then I wanted a stylised house to represent the "at home" bit so I just googled for clip-art images of houses; I'd originally thought of a full house image but when I saw the top-half image it seemed to me that that was a sufficient "umbrella" metaphor, so I fired up GIMP and married the two. Can't have been more than 30 minutes altogether.
As for the rest, well remind me when we are on a firmer footing -- and if we ever get enough funds to bring someone to visit I'm sure we can be flexible in the arrangements. :-)

Okay, can understand where you are coming from now.
It's by far and away the best CMS at home logo I have seen, ever.
If there are no other entries forthcoming get it stuck up on the site :-)

Will do, and it'll be a coffee, white with 2 sugars please ;-)

There is another BOINC project that has handed out Lego kits for special challenges - after a bit of research I discovered Lego is suitable for collider simulations!

Ivan, your logo still represents the CMS@home app. It just get promoted from the backend server to the front page!

Any suggestions for a new logo?
