There has been talk of rewards once we really get off the ground, perhaps as far as a guided tour of CERN and CMS. For the moment, though, that's as close as SETI@Home's mythical toaster.

There is another BOINC project that has handed out Lego kits for special challenges - after a bit of research I discovered Lego is suitable for collider simulations!

Since we're in the next week and I don't get jobs, I suppose we're out of work . . .

Its Early Monday Morning in Beautiful Downtown Uxbridge, let Ivan finish his coffee and croissants before logging in and adding more jobs!

Life's a funny old thing.

I remember that site before it was built, riding along Brunel's railway through the tulip farms to Cowley Station. And then the Concrete came, a Temple to Engineering and Sciences. Well, that wasn't bad, but then they mucked it all up with schools of rubbish like Media Studies and Humanities, poor old Brunel would turn in his grave - unless he appreciated the cash coming in from overseas students.
So you mention Tower D - what the hell is that? Look at maps.
OMG that ugly pile, good job its hidden behind the trees.
I suppose it makes money, I suppose people like it. But it would have been Good if it just stayed doing Engineering and Science...

.... status has 65 66 machines running.

My unmetered internet time starts in half an hour so I'll put another
couple of hosts online then. (How mean can you get?)

From each according to his ability...

It gets worse, the rest will start up at 0100BST. (Cheap electricity time starts)
although they don't all run CMS.

I think you mean 'cheaper' !

The only cheap electricity is when you stand outside in a thunderstorm with a big metal pole to harvest the lightning strikes.

Or a smaller pole connected to a filter and plugged into a PC mic socket http://abelian.org/vlf/

I been gliding around for a while, now swooped out of a cloud and grabbed some jobs.

The time stamps are PDT !

Didn't they used to be UTC ?

I think some versions used NTP to get the time, this one doesnt bother.

I noticed that several days ago ALT+F4 and ALT+F5 suddenly didn't show anything where it did before, but thought it was by purpose and not a bug . . .

That (and the http logs) changed when Condor was introduced instead of the previous mechanism.

My PS display shows either Nothing, or glidin_startup with "sleep" for the past few hours, and loadav of 0.00, 0.00, 0.01

[edit] Wow, as I type its found another job, did you kick something?[/edit]

Well, something seems to be running Condor jobs, but just a few of them so far.

I've got 2 machines today (Thursday) running cmsRun jobs.
Took about 15 mins from bootup and now doing jobs taking 30-50 mins.

I'm considering setting up a BOINC Project COLDBEER@HOME.
It would use a special plug-in gizmo, like Radioactivity or QCN, but would simply take all the CPUpower to operate a fridge.
The system would automatically sense your geographic latitude so as to direct power to users in which ever global hemisphere was in summer, so as to ensure users there had their beer chilled to a temperature of optimum refreshment.
