Should that not be a native linux app without the need of virtual box? Sorry, but no, this is a normal Atlas-WU in VirtualBox. If it were a Native-Linux-App I never could run it as I don't have any Linux machines |

I cannot test ATLAS in spite of 478 Unsent tasks: Do you have allowed Beta-Apps ? |

What do you think about these settings? Not much, I already tested it as 4-Core-WU and it finished also after 5 minutes |

Just grabbed the first of these WUs. The first ones ran only 5 minutes so I think something is wrong (or they use new ports in the firewall) https://lhcathomedev.cern.ch/lhcathome-dev/result.php?resultid=342087 https://lhcathomedev.cern.ch/lhcathome-dev/result.php?resultid=342086 https://lhcathomedev.cern.ch/lhcathome-dev/result.php?resultid=342090 PS.: I have changed my firewall-rules regarding CERN and allowed all ports but the WU still run only 5 minutes |
27) Message boards : Benchmark Application : How is benchmark designed to run
Message 4907 Posted 21 May 2017 by Yeti |
Hi, would like to get some info about the benchmark-application: 1) Should it be run continous or only once in a timeframe ? 2) How big should the timeframe be ? 3) Howe many cores would like to get for benchmark-app ? |

I've got problems with getting V-Box Wu's to run with Windows 10, works okay on 3 of my Win 7 Pro Box's, don't know what to do to get the Wu's to run under Win 10 though, reinstalled BOINC 7.6.33 & V-Box VirtualBox 5.0.18 is known to be not compatible with Win10 You should upgrade VirtualBox to 5.1.16 or higher |

Do you have a recipe for making this work? I followed this description: https://www.windowspro.de/wolfgang-sommergut/nested-virtualization-esxi-hyper-v-unter-esxi-51-ausfuehren If you search the web with "nested virtualization" you will find more (and newer) scripts, but the mentioned script lead me to being succesfull with my ESX-Hosts. I'm running 4 ESX-5.5-Hosts, 3 of them the clients are capabable to run Atlas, but the fourth has an too old processor that I didn't get it working |

David Cameron wrote:Today we cannot run a VM inside another VM, and many LHC computing farms (including CERN itself) run a virtualised infrastructure. A native app would allow us to use the spare capacity of all those CPUs. Sorry, but this is not true. I'm running Atlas@Home on a virtualized Client and it is Number 11 in the TOP-Hosts :-) This is called "nested Virtualisation" and is a little bit tricky to set up, but with VMWare this works really fine as you can see with my Atlas1 |
31) Message boards : CMS Application : CMS 46.27 on vLHC looping but doing nothing usefull
Message 2580 Posted 1 Apr 2016 by Yeti |
In the last days I got the Feeling that my CMS-Task at vLHC is doing nothing usefull. Every time I checked inside the VM the Console ALT/F5 I saw nothing. ATL/F1 - ALT/F4 are showing "normal" Content, but ALT/F5 is always empty. I checked logs, But I'm not shure where to take a look. I see run-1 up to run-30, the WU is running 4 hours and 20 minutes Run-1 has the latest / newest Date-Signatur: http://localhost:55538/logs/run-1/glide_GJSlZn/ startDLOG: 04/01/16 11:46:22 (pid:10314) ****************************************************** 04/01/16 11:46:22 (pid:10314) ** condor_startd (CONDOR_STARTD) STARTING UP 04/01/16 11:46:22 (pid:10314) ** /home/boinc/CMSRun/glide_GJSlZn/main/condor/sbin/condor_startd 04/01/16 11:46:22 (pid:10314) ** SubsystemInfo: name=STARTD type=STARTD(7) class=DAEMON(1) 04/01/16 11:46:22 (pid:10314) ** Configuration: subsystem:STARTD local:<NONE> class:DAEMON 04/01/16 11:46:22 (pid:10314) ** $CondorVersion: 8.2.3 Sep 30 2014 BuildID: 274619 $ 04/01/16 11:46:22 (pid:10314) ** $CondorPlatform: x86_64_RedHat5 $ 04/01/16 11:46:22 (pid:10314) ** PID = 10314 04/01/16 11:46:22 (pid:10314) ** Log last touched time unavailable (No such file or directory) 04/01/16 11:46:22 (pid:10314) ****************************************************** 04/01/16 11:46:22 (pid:10314) Using config source: /home/boinc/CMSRun/glide_GJSlZn/condor_config 04/01/16 11:46:22 (pid:10314) config Macros = 213, Sorted = 213, StringBytes = 10679, TablesBytes = 7708 04/01/16 11:46:22 (pid:10314) CLASSAD_CACHING is ENABLED 04/01/16 11:46:22 (pid:10314) Daemon Log is logging: D_ALWAYS D_ERROR D_JOB 04/01/16 11:46:22 (pid:10314) DaemonCore: command socket at <10.0.2.15:34546?noUDP> 04/01/16 11:46:22 (pid:10314) DaemonCore: private command socket at <10.0.2.15:34546> 04/01/16 11:46:22 (pid:10314) CCBListener: registered with CCB server lcggwms02.gridpp.rl.ac.uk:9621 as ccbid 130.246.180.120:9621#152909 04/01/16 11:46:22 (pid:10314) my_popenv failed 04/01/16 11:46:22 (pid:10314) Failed to run hibernation plugin '/home/boinc/CMSRun/glide_GJSlZn/main/condor/libexec/condor_power_state ad' 04/01/16 11:46:22 (pid:10314) VM-gahp server reported an internal error 04/01/16 11:46:22 (pid:10314) VM universe will be tested to check if it is available 04/01/16 11:46:22 (pid:10314) History file rotation is enabled. 04/01/16 11:46:22 (pid:10314) Maximum history file size is: 20971520 bytes 04/01/16 11:46:22 (pid:10314) Number of rotated history files is: 2 04/01/16 11:46:22 (pid:10314) Allocating auto shares for slot type 1: Cpus: 1.000000, Memory: auto, Swap: auto, Disk: auto slot type 1: Cpus: 1.000000, Memory: 2002, Swap: 100.00%, Disk: 100.00% 04/01/16 11:46:22 (pid:10314) New machine resource of type 1 allocated 04/01/16 11:46:22 (pid:10314) Setting up slot pairings 04/01/16 11:46:22 (pid:10314) my_popenv failed 04/01/16 11:46:22 (pid:10314) Adding 'mips' to the Supplimental ClassAd list 04/01/16 11:46:22 (pid:10314) CronJobList: Adding job 'mips' 04/01/16 11:46:22 (pid:10314) Adding 'kflops' to the Supplimental ClassAd list 04/01/16 11:46:22 (pid:10314) CronJobList: Adding job 'kflops' 04/01/16 11:46:22 (pid:10314) CronJob: Initializing job 'mips' (/home/boinc/CMSRun/glide_GJSlZn/main/condor/libexec/condor_mips) 04/01/16 11:46:22 (pid:10314) CronJob: Initializing job 'kflops' (/home/boinc/CMSRun/glide_GJSlZn/main/condor/libexec/condor_kflops) 04/01/16 11:46:22 (pid:10314) State change: IS_OWNER is false 04/01/16 11:46:22 (pid:10314) Changing state: Owner -> Unclaimed 04/01/16 11:46:22 (pid:10314) State change: RunBenchmarks is TRUE 04/01/16 11:46:22 (pid:10314) Changing activity: Idle -> Benchmarking 04/01/16 11:46:22 (pid:10314) BenchMgr:StartBenchmarks() 04/01/16 11:46:40 (pid:10314) State change: benchmarks completed 04/01/16 11:46:40 (pid:10314) Changing activity: Benchmarking -> Idle 04/01/16 11:52:17 (pid:10314) No resources have been claimed for 30 seconds 04/01/16 11:52:17 (pid:10314) Shutting down Condor on this machine. 04/01/16 11:52:17 (pid:10314) Got SIGTERM. I just re-enabled one of my boxes to fetch work from this Project. The machine was added 2 month ago, so before your Project rename. I only allowed to get work and work was fetched; this was good. If anyone has a WMAgent job, please can you confirm that the consoles are working for you. How can I identify that I have a WMAgent-Job ? |

Okay, Project guys, please, bring some light into my darkness. I understood your postings, that you wanted us to Switch to vLHC and there to run CMS-Tasks. But I see that you are still running and serving CMS-Tasks here while vLHC does only sent out few workunits. So, what do you prefer ? Running CMS here or at vLHC ? |

This sounds to me as the good old times: Do you remember, what an 8 Bit integer is ? Do you remember, if you add 1 to an 8 Bit integer value that is 32767 ? For me it looks like an variable-Overflow ... |

Okay guys, here is one more Point for your ToDo-List on the way to vLHC. In vLHC I see very often my CMS-Task sitting with doing nothing because "BOINC_User-ID is not an integer" (it is blank or NULL) I didn't wathc this here in CMS-Dev |
