Should that not be a native linux app without the need of virtual box?

Sorry, but no, this is a normal Atlas-WU in VirtualBox.

If it were a Native-Linux-App I never could run it as I don't have any Linux machines

I cannot test ATLAS in spite of 478 Unsent tasks:

lhcathome-dev 13 Jun 18:25:10 No tasks are available for ATLAS Simulation

Do you have allowed Beta-Apps ?

What do you think about these settings?

Setting Memory Size for VM. (3600MB)
Setting CPU Count for VM. (2)

Not much, I already tested it as 4-Core-WU and it finished also after 5 minutes

Just grabbed the first of these WUs.

The first ones ran only 5 minutes so I think something is wrong (or they use new ports in the firewall)

https://lhcathomedev.cern.ch/lhcathome-dev/result.php?resultid=342087

https://lhcathomedev.cern.ch/lhcathome-dev/result.php?resultid=342086

https://lhcathomedev.cern.ch/lhcathome-dev/result.php?resultid=342090

PS.: I have changed my firewall-rules regarding CERN and allowed all ports but the WU still run only 5 minutes

Hi,

would like to get some info about the benchmark-application:

1) Should it be run continous or only once in a timeframe ?
2) How big should the timeframe be ?
3) Howe many cores would like to get for benchmark-app ?

I've got problems with getting V-Box Wu's to run with Windows 10, works okay on 3 of my Win 7 Pro Box's, don't know what to do to get the Wu's to run under Win 10 though, reinstalled BOINC 7.6.33 & V-Box

Shows Virtualbox Interface in the Task Manager

BOINC Log shows >>> 3/29/2017 7:09:24 AM | | VirtualBox version: 5.0.18

Then I get this with all App's after 10 Min's of running the V-Box Wu:
"PBOYZTOYNP9873 161 lhcathome-dev 3/29/2017 7:26:26 AM task postponed 86400.000000 sec: VM Hypervisor failed to enter an online state in a timely fashion"

VirtualBox 5.0.18 is known to be not compatible with Win10

You should upgrade VirtualBox to 5.1.16 or higher

Do you have a recipe for making this work?

I followed this description: https://www.windowspro.de/wolfgang-sommergut/nested-virtualization-esxi-hyper-v-unter-esxi-51-ausfuehren

If you search the web with "nested virtualization" you will find more (and newer) scripts, but the mentioned script lead me to being succesfull with my ESX-Hosts.

I'm running 4 ESX-5.5-Hosts, 3 of them the clients are capabable to run Atlas, but the fourth has an too old processor that I didn't get it working

David Cameron wrote:
Today we cannot run a VM inside another VM, and many LHC computing farms (including CERN itself) run a virtualised infrastructure. A native app would allow us to use the spare capacity of all those CPUs.

Sorry, but this is not true.

I'm running Atlas@Home on a virtualized Client and it is Number 11 in the TOP-Hosts :-)

This is called "nested Virtualisation" and is a little bit tricky to set up, but with VMWare this works really fine as you can see with my Atlas1

In the last days I got the Feeling that my CMS-Task at vLHC is doing nothing usefull. Every time I checked inside the VM the Console ALT/F5 I saw nothing.

ATL/F1 - ALT/F4 are showing "normal" Content, but ALT/F5 is always empty.

I checked logs, But I'm not shure where to take a look.

I see run-1 up to run-30, the WU is running 4 hours and 20 minutes

Run-1 has the latest / newest Date-Signatur:

I just re-enabled one of my boxes to fetch work from this Project.

The machine was added 2 month ago, so before your Project rename. I only allowed to get work and work was fetched; this was good.

Now, run 1 has finished and the box is sitting their idle.

I just checked around and found in http://localhost:57156/logs/run-1/glide_UES5to/MasterLog:

If anyone has a WMAgent job, please can you confirm that the consoles are working for you.

How can I identify that I have a WMAgent-Job ?

Okay, Project guys, please, bring some light into my darkness.

I understood your postings, that you wanted us to Switch to vLHC and there to run CMS-Tasks.

But I see that you are still running and serving CMS-Tasks here while vLHC does only sent out few workunits.

So, what do you prefer ? Running CMS here or at vLHC ?

Good point, but I think you mean 16-bit, signed. :-)

Yeah, it is so far away but it seems you are right ;-)

This sounds to me as the good old times:

Do you remember, what an 8 Bit integer is ?

Do you remember, if you add 1 to an 8 Bit integer value that is 32767 ?

For me it looks like an variable-Overflow ...

I had already posted this in a different thread:

Okay guys, here is one more Point for your ToDo-List on the way to vLHC.

In vLHC I see very often my CMS-Task sitting with doing nothing because "BOINC_User-ID is not an integer" (it is blank or NULL)

I didn't wathc this here in CMS-Dev
